How Culture Affects Learning and Teaching - Ellis

I found this quote when I did my research so I thought I would share it-

“The need for a sense of individuality is in every human being and one must not ignore it”- Eleanor Roosevelt

Culture, learning, and teaching are all connected. To help all learners succeed in school we need to constantly reevaluate our expectations of students. Our expectations need to change as our students change. We also need to think about our own assumptions and biases and how that affects learning in the classroom. Another thing to think about is what we are teaching and how it will impact each individual student’s learning. If we don’t use different learning styles in our classrooms, some students will feel frustrated or like they can’t understand and keep up. If we know more about the cultures in our classrooms, we can adjust our teaching to better suit their learning styles.

  1. Courtney, I love this comment. It is so true, especially for us as teachers. I think I am going to add it to my collection of quotations.

  3. Courtney, you make such a great point that we need to evaluate attitudes and methods as well as our students. Children change quickly and we need to assure that we are serving them to their best ability levels!
