Update on Task Two and Three
I have to admit I am having a little trouble with this. I know I will get there, but am struggling right now. Trying to do all of this while our RBES is due and posting reading, writing and math has made for a stressful week.
My sweet student really gets the quiet on when we talk. I have recorded once with just some conversation, but I think after tonight, I will pull out some pictures and we can talk about those. If I could only be a fly on the wall when she talks to her friends - in English - I could get lots!
All the technical information has me frazzled and I will have to buckle down this weekend and really get on it.
Hope you are all doing well on your assignments.

My student also got really quiet when I was recording him. I think just knowing it was being taped made him very nervous. He made mistakes that he doesn't usually make. I agree that it would be easier if we could magically record a conversation without them knowing! Good luck with your paper!!
ReplyDeleteWould it be possible to have Fun Friday tomorrow, and record the child talking to her/his friends while playing games? I don't know if that's actually allowed on the assignment. Or invite another child to lunch with you and the student? My student seemed to think I just had my phone for texting, not actually recording her!
ReplyDeleteI used a picture and that seemed to really generate alot of oral exchange between my student. When he started to answer with just yeah's, I would ask him to describe or tell me about it.
ReplyDeleteThe technical information has been getting to me too, especially when I try to sit down and read/work on it in the evenings. After a long day of all the "usual" stressful school stuff, and then getting my two little ones to bed my brain is fried! I actually woke up one night in my computer chair. I must have been asleep 30-45 minutes and both of my arms were completely numb! Lol! Needless to say, I gave up and went to bed...
ReplyDeleteMe too! I don't get to even start until around 9:00 PM when they are finally asleep. I'm up into the wee hours almost every night now with either work for this class or other work for school.
DeleteI am feeling the same way with a toddler at home, the demands of my students, paperwork for our AP's, meetings at school and trying to fit in writing papers for this class.
ReplyDeleteI am stuggling with getting my students to be quiet long enough for me to tape my student. This year the students seem to need more of my attention at this point in the school year than they did last year.
The good thing is there is a light at the end of the tunnel for us all.
My student got nervous when I began recording as well. But- I let him start talking about a topic that he is REALLY interested in, which is the culture of the L2 language- and he began talking and would not shut up! That was a very good conversation. I will admit that it was interesting to get the rest of the kids quiet.
ReplyDeleteWe all seem to have alot going on now, but you seem to have a super lot! I think the best thing is to know that it will all be over soon.
